David Owen

VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHY

As a freelance photographer and filmmaker / video camera operator since 2010, David has worked for various clients, including media organizations, institutions, and companies.
His technical training in photography and video took place at the Sciences Po Journalism school in Paris, the UNC School of Journalism in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, and the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA - National Audiovisual Institute) outside Paris, where he attended a five-month full-time professional camera operating certification and cinematography training program.


TEACHING
In addition to his work in photography and video, David has been teaching at film and drama schools in Paris for over five years. He is currently the international program director and a teacher at CineStudio - Paris School of Film and Media
( www.cinestudio.paris ) where he teaches classes and workshops in English to international students, that include the subjects of Filmmaking and Cinematography, Photography, Acting for Film, and Documentary / Visual Journalism. He also gives introductory classes in Screenwriting and Film Production.

Prior to his experience at CineStudio, David was a teacher and international program coordinator for two years at the ESRA film school in Paris, for their courses offered in English to international students. In addition to this, he taught for several years at a variety of schools in Paris, including the 3IS film school (International Institute for Image and Sound), for Documentary History and Journalism classes, at the Cours Florent drama school, for Acting for Cinema workshops with acting students, and at the IESA arts and culture management school and the Paris School of Business, for classes on Management and Public speaking. David also taught some short workshops abroad, including a workshop in Malta for a corporate client in partnership with the Cours Florent drama school in Paris (2017) and a Multimedia Journalism course for aspiring journalists at the Bhutan Media Institute in Thimpu, Bhutan, in partnership with the AFP Foundation in Paris (2013).

JOURNALISM

David worked for four years as a journalist and photo editor at the international photo desk of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency in Paris from 2011 to 2014. This opportunity confirmed his passion for photography and photojournalism, while enabling him to develop skills as a photo editor and journalist in a newsroom. He was also an occasional freelance photographer and videographer for AFP, including for the 70th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy (2014), the national elections in Bhutan in 2013, and at the AFP TV video desk in Paris in the summer of 2015.

He graduated in 2010 with a Master's degree in Journalism from Sciences Po university (Institut d'Etudes Politiques) in Paris.
